8 DB policemen closed for torturing journalist in Barisal

Eight personals of detective branch of Barisal Metropolitan Police have been closed on Tuesday afternoon for torturing Sumon Hasan, camera person of DBC News.
Nasir Uddin Mallik, Assistant Commissioner of DB of BMP, said Sub Inspector Abul Bashar, two assistant sub inspectors and five constables of the team were among the closed persons.
An investigation committee would also be formed to probe the matter, Nasir Uddin added.
Golam Rouf, Deputy Commissioner of BMP, assured that hard action would be taken according to the report of the investigation team.
Tortured journalist Sumon giving statement before the BMP officials and journalists at DB office said a team of DB police while operating an anti-drug drive at Beauty Cinema Road of the city Sumon rushed there to collect the news.
While he giving his professional identification wants some information of the police operation team, they assaulted Sumon physically under open day-light and torturing him brought to Metro DB office.
Hearing the news, members of journalist community of Barisal rushed to the MBP DB office and contacted with high officials of BMP including Uttam Kumar Pal, deputy commissioner (DB) of BMP.
There tortured journalist Sumon described the facts before the high police officials and journalists showing signs of physical torture on him.
From there Sumon brought to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and admitted there for treatment.
Barisal Reporters Unity, Press Club, Photo Journalist Association, condemning the torture demanded exemplary punishment of the torturer law enforcers.
