Eight policemen including two officers-in-charge (OCs) of Sylhet Kotwali Police Station have been suspended on charge of torturing a businessman inside the police station.
The accused policemen are: Md Ataur Rahman, OC, Shaymol Banik, OC (investigation), Sub-Inspector Ashraful Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector Abu Taher and constables Rajib Kumar Das, Azadur Rahman, Nazrul Islam and Odir.
The suspension orders of the two OCs came from police headquarters in Dhaka, while Sylhet
Metropolitan Police (SMP) suspended the six other cops.
Earlier, the police headquarters formed an inquiry committee following a complained by Kamal Ahmed Chowdhury that the suspended policemen tortured him at the police station.
The suspension follows the report of the inquiry committee.
