Detectives on Thursday pressed charges against eight people, including two Bangladesh-born British nationals, with a court in connection with the seizure of liquid cocaine at the port.
Assistant Commissioner (North) of Detective Branch (DB) of police of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) M Qaruzzaman, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet to the Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The charge-sheeted accused are two Bangladeshi-born British nationals Bakul Miah and Fazlu Miah, Prime Hatchery Managing Director Golam Mostafa Sohel, Cosco Bangladesh Shipping Lines ltd Manager AK Azad, Mandal Group Business Executive Atiqur Rahman, C&F Official Saiful Alam, security company Official Mehidi Alam and developer company Official Mostafa Kamal.
Of the accused, Saiful was freed on bail on Wednesday while the rest, except Bakul Miah and Fazlu Miah, were in jail.
Liquid cocaine was detected in 107 drums of a consignment of Bolivian sunflower oil which the customs intelligence officials seized at Chittagong Port on Jun 8 last.
