8 BNP activists sent to jail over Tikatuli attack

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent eight activists of BNP to jail in a case lodged over alleged attack on polling camp of Awami League mayoral candidate in capital’s Tikatuli area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ahsan Habib sent Jamil Ahammed Tuhin, Billal Hossain, Sohel, Faruk and Akram Hossain Munna to jail as investigation officer (IO) and Wari Police Station sub-inspector Zulfikar Ali

produced them before court after end of their one-day remand. The same court also sent BNP activists Golam Mohammad Bulbul, Rabbi Islam and Anwar Hossain to jail as the IO produced them before court and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand. Their lawyers however argued for their bail.
After hearing both the sides, the court sent them to jail.
A group of BNP activists attacked polling camp of Awami League mayoral candidate in front of Central Women’s College in Tikatuli in the morning of January 26, as they were passing through the area.
Local Awami League leader and ward-39 election campaign committee member Maksud Ahmed filed the case with Wari Police Station against 50 BNP leaders and activists over the attack.
