The Special Tribunal on Thursday has acquitted 8 accused persons and two companies in two separate cases of the 1996 capital market fraud case.
The tribunal judge Akbar Ali Sheikh announced the verdict on the speedy disposal of the capital market case.
The two companies are HMMS Financial Consultancy and Securities and Securities Consultants Limited.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), the capital market regulator, filed two cases in this regard.
The accused who got the acquittal are – Hemayet Uddin Ahmed, Mostak Ahmed Sadek, Syed Mahbub Murshed, Sharif Ataur Rahman, Ahmed Iqbal Hassan,
M Azam J Chowdhury, Shahidullah and Prof Mahbub Ahmed.
Former chairman of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Hemayet Uddin Ahmed, DSE Brokers Association President Mustak Ahmed Sadek, DSE member Syed Mahbub Murshed, current director of the DSE Sharif Ataur Rahman and former chairman of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Ahmed Iqbal Hassan have been acquitted of the acquittal of HMMS Financial Consultancy and Securities. Former Chairman Ahmed Iqbal Hasan get release from the case.
M Azam J Chowdhury, Shahidullah and Prof. Mahbub Ahmed received the acquittal. At the same time, the two companies named HMMS Financial Consultancy and Securities and Securities Consultants Limited were also exempted.
BSEC panel lawyer Masud Rana said, the tribunal gave the verdict in the case of 1996 acquitting the accused. After getting the copy of the verdict in this matter, it will be decided to appeal to the High Court, he said.
