The Anti-Corruption Commission Secretary Mohammad Maksudul Hasan Khan on Wednesday said that the accused in 79 graft cases out of 123 filed by ACC were acquitted of all the charges against them while the accused faced punishments in 44 cases only in the last eight months.
He disclosed this at a monthly briefing in the media centre of the commission’s head office.
He said, the commission so far approved some 193 cases and 338 charge sheets in eight months from January to August. On the other hand, the investigation teams submitted final inquiry reports in 304 cases.
Some 6,640 graft related complaints were submitted to the commission. Of those, 691 only were taken into cognizance after scrutiny.
In response to a question why the ACC did not file any case against five secretaries managing freedom fighter certificates, he said that the commission followed law in this respect.
However, ACC Act-2004, Section-420 empowers the commission to file case against the responsible officials. He rejected an accusation that the ACC was under pressure. In another query on the Padma Bridge graft case, he said, the ACC did not find any credible evidence to fight with the case.
