75th death anniversary of Tagore observed

Entertainment Desk :A two-day-long programme marking Baishe Srabon, death anniversary of great poet Rabindranath Tagore kick off at the Bangla Academy yesterday.Bangla Academy is holding the programme in order to promote the philosophy of Tagore in the interest of the new generation.As part of the programme, a book on Tagore titled ‘Rabindra Jibon’ (3rd Part), written by Ahmed Rafiq will be published at the academy’s Shamsur Rahman Seminar Hall today.Bangla Academy Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan will attend the programme. Second day of the programme features discussion, recitation, rendition and Rabindra Award 2016. This year the award will be given to Professor Akram Hossain and singer Tapan Mahmud.Noted Rabindra Sangeet exponent Rezwana Choudhury Bannya will deliver speech at the event presided over by Bangla Academy chairman Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman. Different socio-cultural organisations have also chalked out various programmes to mark the day.Tagore, who enriched the Bengali language and literature with his astounding talent and merit, died in 1941 at the age of 80.He composed hundreds of poems, stories and novels to take the literary creations to their zenith.Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) will hold a cultural programme at the National Theatre Hall auditorium in the city on Saturday evening in observance of the 75th death anniversary of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore.Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz will attend a discussion as the chief guest. The programme will be presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky.Professor Dr Akhtar Kamal of the Bangla Department of Dhaka University and Research Director of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies Binayak Sen will be present as key discussants.The discussion over, artistes of Bangladesh Academy of Fine Arts will perform a dance-drama, ‘Swararitu’, directed by Farhana Chowdhury Baby.Different socio-cultural organisations have also chalked out various programmes to mark the day.Tagore, who enriched the Bengali language and literature with his astounding talent and merit, died in 1941 at the age of 80. Mizanur Rahman, Vice Principal of the College, Shyabel Jui Gomej, Shamim Ferdouse, Mozammel Huque and Paritosh Acharjee among others spoke on the life and literary works of the great poet.The theme of the function was ” Tobu Mone Rekho”. The artists of Jatiyo Rabindra Sangit Parisad, Manikganj participated in the musical soiree.
