Promotion wave in EC: 75 officials recommended for promotion, 2000 new posts created

Ahead of the 11th parliamentary election, a large- scale recruitment and promotion is going to be held in the Election Commission Secretariat.
“The commission will employ around 2000 people, including 517 thana assistant election officers ahead of the national polls,” Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder told newsmen at his office at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon on Thursday. Mahbub Talukder, who is Chief of the EC’s appointment-promotion committee, said the promotion of 75 officials of different levels has been recommended. It will be effective if the EC approves this recommendation.
He said that promotion to the public administration and police are being held ahead of the elections. So, the promotional wave also touches the EC.
Mahbub Talukder said that no one was recommended to the post of joint secretary. Nine regional election officers were recommended to give fourth grade.
Besides, the committee has recommended to promoting 29 people to deputy secretary (fifth grade) and senior assistant secretary to 37. He said the EC would be more powerful if new manpower is recruited in 2000 posts.
Replying to a question whether the Deputy Secretaries of the EC Secretariat will be given the responsibility of returning officers in the next election, Mahbub Talukder said the Election Commission will take a decision in this matter.
Besides, a meeting of the EC committee for appointment, promotion, administrative reforms and rearrangement, and skill development was held on Wednesday with Mahbub Talukder in the chair.
