A total of 730 Bangladeshi students have enrolled in different German universities in the winter semester of 2013-14. The number of newly enrolled students is higher by over 500 compared to those of two years ago.
This was informed at a two-day information sessions organized by the German Embassy in Dhaka at the University of Dhaka and the Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Representatives of the Embassy said around 72 per cent of Bangladeshi students go to Germany for programmes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related subjects and fields.
Study programmes on offer, admission procedures, student life in Germany, scholarship opportunities and the visa procedure were discussed in both the programmes attended by several hundred students and faculty members.
President of the Association of Alumni of German Universities in Bangladesh Dr Qumrul Hassan presided over the function while Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Dhaka University Professor Nasreen Ahmad attended it as the chief guest.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Dhaka University Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman was the special guest while DAAD Research Ambassador Dr Anwar Zahid, Third Secretary and Cultural Attaché of the German Embassy Zürpel and DAAD Research Ambassador Dr Anwar Zahid spoke the function, among others.
Dhaka University-based Lecturer of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD Bangladesh) Marie Kretzschmar presented the key information on “International Programs at German Universities, Scholarship Opportunities and Student Life in Germany. Marie Kretzschmar offered all out support, including scholarships and visa processing, to the Bangladeshi students wishing to study in Germany.
The embassy officials also offered to help Bangladeshi students to get part-time job during their study in an interaction with the Dhaka University students on Wednesday on the campus.
However, they advised them to contact before taking admissions so that students do not face any trouble in Germany.
Every year with its regional branch offices, information centers, and professors around the globe, DAAD provides information and financial support to over 120,000 highly-qualified students and faculty for international research and study.
They highlighted the potentials of Bangladeshi students about their higher education and research opportunities in Germany. Similar information session was also held in Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology on Thursday.
Besides, a third information session was also held in collaboration with “Die Sprache” German language school in Chittagong, which cooperates with the Embassy and the DAAD on numerous occasions.
