Chittagong Union of Journalist(CUJ) held a rally in front of Chittagong Press Club on Sunday protesting the life threat to Purbodesh journalist Rahul Das Nayan by Banskhali lawmaker Mostafizur Rahman MP for alleged harassment and threat to life. The rally was presided by the President of CUJ Riaz Haider Chowdhury.
The rally demanded unconditional apology by the lawmaker by next 72 hours otherwise tougher movement including candling of effigy of the lawmaker and the siege of his city office will be taken immediately .
The rally also told that a memorandum will be sent to Prime Minister immediately in connection. Sources said Journo Rahul Das asked the PIO of Banskhali upazila to supply the project activities of the upazila on September last and the matter was apprised to the local lawmaker by the PIO . Later on October 18 last, Mostafizur Rahman MP called him on mobile phone with ugly language and utter threat of harassment .Meanwhile BFUJ and CUJ and other related bodies condemned the behavior of the lawmaker and the victim Rahul prayed to the police super on October 20 last for protection of his life during professional duties.
Among others, General Secretary Md. Ali, Joint secretary of CUJ Swarup , former President M Nasirul Hoque, Mostaque Ahmed, Abu Taher Mahmud, Press Club President Ali Abbas, CUJ former secretary Nazimuddin, former joint secretary Shamsul Islam spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile Chittagong Metropolitan Union of Journalists also expressed solidarity in the rally.
