Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sheikh Riyad Muhammad Nur, 39, an Acting Editor of an online news portal ‘Dainik 71.com’ on charges of publishing seditious, false, and baseless news on social media from the city’s Segunbagicha area on Saturday night.
ASP Bina Rani Das, Operation Officer of
RAB-3, said that Riyad Muhammad had been operating ‘Dainik 71.com’ for a long time and posting seditious news, RAB official said.
A team of RAB-3 conducted a drive in the area and arrested the daily 71.com Acting Editor Sheikh Riyad Muhammad for publishing baseless news to engineer anti-government sentiment, said Bina Rani Das, Operation Officer of RAB-3.
“He has been making posts allegedly distorting and confusing history of the Liberation War, on his Facebook account and pages-‘Ekattorer Shaheed O Juddhahoto Muktijoddha Poribar’, ‘Dainik Ekattor Nagorik Batayon’ and ‘Ekattorer Shaheed-Juddhahoto Muktijoddha Poribar,” the RAB official said.
“He has been publishing seditious, false and fake news as per his whims, for long,” said Bina Rani Das.
Sheikh Riyad claimed himself as a researcher on the Liberation War and Contemporary Politics, she said.
A case was filed with the Police Station in this connection, she added.
