About 70 per cent of the recent covid dead people were not vaccinated, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
“It cannot be said, in any way, that the inoculated individual is unlikely to die from the fatal disease, rather we can say vaccination will provide protection to the recipient. However the full protection has yet to be ensured,” Professor Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, the Director General of the DGHS said on Sunday.
The DG of the DGHS said it while replying to query from journalists at a programme in the capital.
The event was organised by the National Liver Foundation of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Health
Reporters Forum on the occasion of the World Hepatitis Day to be observed on July 28.
The DGHS Chief said, “About 70 percent of the patients died recently from Covid-19 were not vaccinated. The Covid situation was under control, even a few days ago. But suddenly there was a further surge in cases.”
“Most of the people having cough and fever in recent times do not take Covid test. But mostly of those who have done it, tested positive,” the DG said.
Bangladesh on Sunday reported 430 cases and four deaths from the disease.
The latest figures turned the total caseload to 20,01,775 and fatalities 29,266, according to the daily virus update by the DGHS.
