Staff Reporter :About 7,000 new police members will be recruited in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The Home Ministry has sent a letter to Prime Minister’s Office for approval of the posts, official sources said. The ministry will start the recruiting of police personnel after getting the approval of the PM’s Office, DMP sources said. Among the new posts, 90 posts will come from Bangladesh Civil Service [BCS], 150 Inspectors, 1,100 Sub-Inspectors, 1,200 Assistant Sub-Inspectors and 4,400 Constables. The other members will come from civil posts.The sources said, there are 26,500 police officials and members in DMP. They work in different Police Stations and units. The DMP will be benefited to reduce crimes by the new police members. A top level police official wishing anonymity told The New Nation on Saturday that the developed countries in the world recruit the police members following the people’s number. There are 154,000 police personnel in Bangladesh. Of them, 26,500 are in Dhaka. Dhaka also needs more police members to keep law and order situation well, he said. Earlier, the Prime Minister announced that more 50,000 police members would be recruited. Following the PM’s direction, the Home Ministry created 14,000 posts. Of the posts, it would provide 7,000 members to DMP. The DMP sources said that the Police Headquarters sent a letter to Home Ministry seeking 12,500 police members for DMP. The Home Ministry selected 7,000 and sent the letter to Public Administration Ministry. The Public Administration Ministry sent it to Finance Ministry for discussion and allocate fund. Later, the Finance Ministry passed the letter in its meeting and sent to the PM’s Office for final approval.
