About 70 tenants of the Abdul Jalil estate in Pathergatha under Kotwali thana in city were evicted on Tuesday .
The eviction drive was conducted from morning to 4 pm, police sources s aid.
Executive Magistrateof the district administration Saiful Islam led the eviction drive . He told the media that following the directives of the higher court, the eviction drive was launched.
After evicting the tenants , 7 acres of land handed over to coiurt custodian Advocate Mahmudur Rahman under his custody.
It is learnt from local sources, the evicted tenants had been residing within the Abdul Jalil estate of Jalillgonj, Pathergatha through constructing semi-pucca houses for the last 5 decades.
Court sources said there was a long dispute over the ownership of the estate among the successors of the late Abdul Jalil chowdhury since long and hence the tenants was paying house rent to court custodian.
After finalization of the ownership title by the concerned court, the tenants were evicted aimed at handing over the properties to the successors of the Abdul Jalil chowdhury, sources said.
