A total of 70 aspirant candidates of Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations have collected nomination papers from local returning officers’ office till Saturday, officials said.
Those who collected nomination forms were: two mayoral candidates, two reserved seat ward councillor candidates and 66 general ward councillor candidates.
Md Shah Alam, Returning Officer, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), told reporters that two mayoral aspirants, one reserved seat ward councillor candidate and 25 general ward councillor candidates have collected nomination forms till Saturday, the second day of the nomination form distribution.
The returning officer said that his office is distributing nomination forms to the aspiring candidates from 9:00am to 5:00pm. They can even collect it on Friday and Saturday from our office situated at 67, Agargaon, Alam added.
“None of the mayoral aspirant is yet to collect nomination form from our office. But one reserved seat ward councillor candidate and 41 general ward councilor candidates have collected nomination forms for vying the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections,” Mihir Sarwar Morshed, Returning Officer of DSCC told the media. On March 18, the Chief Election Commissioner declared the schedule of three city corporation polls, setting April 28 as date for the elections to DSCC and DNCC and Chittagong City Corporation.
The CEC said the aspiring candidates could collect nomination papers and submit them until March 29. Returning officers would scrutinise the nomination papers on April 1and 2.
The candidates would be able to withdraw their candidature until April 9, after that the EC would allocate election symbols.
