A 7-year-old child was reportedly raped earlier this month in Bishnupur union of Sadar upazila in Bagerhat.
The matter came to light when her mother filed a case with the Bagerhat Model police station on Thursday night.
The accused Enam Sheikh, 22, is the son of Malek Sheikh, a grocery shop owner of Mulghar village in Bishnupur union of Bagerhat Sadar upazila.
The girl’s mother said: “On January 5, I had to
leave my daughter home alone to go see a doctor in Bagerhat town with my younger child as my husband also had to go to work. Finding my daughter alone in the house, Enam abducted her and raped her behind his father’s shop.
“Later, when I returned home my daughter disclosed the matter. I immediately informed Enam’s brother Zakir, and their father but they did not take any action. Meanwhile, as my daughter’s physical and mental state slowly began deteriorating, I took her to see the doctor,” she added.
Bagerhat Model police station OC (Investigation) Pannu Miya said police are trying to arrest the accused.
He also said that the girl will be sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital for medical attention.
