Jessore tragedy: 7 students’ families to get Tk 2 lakh each

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman on Wednesday announced to provide Tk 2 lakh to each family of the seven schoolchildren who died in a tragic road accident in Chougachha upazila of Jessore on Saturday night.
While consoling the bereaved families at noon, the minister said Primary and Mass Education Ministry will give Tk 1 lakh while Jessore Teachers’ Association Tk 1 lakh to each of the families.
Besides, each of the injured schoolchildren will get Tk 25,000, he said.
On February 15, the seven students of Benapole Primary Government School drowned and 40 others injured as a bus carrying them plunged into a pond at Jhautala in Chougachha upazila on
Jessore-Meherpur Highway while returning home from a picnic.
Later, Mostafizur attended a milad held at the Benapole Primary Government School seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of the seven schoolchildren.
He also announced to start the construction work on a two-storey building of the school in memory of the deceased children.
Benapole municipality mayor Ashraful Alam Liton, Sharsha upazila chairman A Mannan Minu, Jessore additional deputy commissioner Zahid Hasan and Sharsha upazila nirbahi officer Shariful Islam were present.
