Trawler capsize: 7 still remained missing

M M Jasim :Relatives of the missing passengers are waiting for them standing on the bank of the River Meghna at Monpura upazila in Bhola. They went missing after a trawler carrying at least 100 passengers sank in the river due to inclement weather on Thursday last. The members of Coast Guard and local fishermen are still searching for missing people in the trawler capsize which left eight passengers dead. The missing people have been identified as Swapna, Kamal, Mishu, Hakim, Yunus Munshi and Habib. Mizan, brother of missing Swapna, said they were waiting for his sister. “The members of Coast Guard tried hard to trace her. We don’t know what actually happened to her. We cannot console our hearts, our minds, our souls because she is our sister,” Mizan said with crying face. Kanchan Mia, brother of missing Kamal, said they were searching his brother’s body by trawler since Thursday evening. The Monpura Police Station handed over six bodies to their family members. The district administration paid Tk 20,000 to each deceased family. Mohammad Selim Reza, Deputy Commissioner of Bhola, told The New Nation, the members of Coast Guard and police are in the River Meghna to search for the missing bodies. The administration would give all possible helps to them, he said. Meanwhile, the 11 people are now under treatment at Monpura Upazila Health Complex with critical injuries. Shamiron Kumar, doctor of Monpura Upazila Health Complex, said that the condition of the injured people is not good. They are still in danger, the doctor said. It may be mentioned that the trawler bound for Hajirhat from Kalatoli sank in the Meghna river due to inclement weather around 11:30 on Thursday which left eight people dead and several others missing.
