Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested seven muggers during a drive near Jamiutul Falah Mosque west gate of city’s Lalkhan Bazar area near CWASA office early yesterday. Police recovered five knives, a mobile phone set and Tk one thousand from their possession.
The arrestees were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 22, Mohammad Sajjad Hossain, 20, Prince Shuvo Das, 19, Selim Hossain Apu, 22, Mohammad Sabuj, 22, Nurunnabi Hossain Tuhin, 21, and Mainuddin Raja, 19. All the arrestees reside at city’s Lalkhan Bazar Motijharna area , police said.
Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kotwali thana said a man, who came from Comilla was mugged at Ispahani Intersection on his way to his residence in the city by a rickshaw at around 5-30am.
The victim informed the matter to a patrolling police team and police launched a prompt drive immediately after the incident, he said. Muggers confessed to the police to have carried out the snatching, Jasim added.
