The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday sent notices to seven organisations including RAJUK and Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) for documents of wealth and properties of former State Minister for Water Resources Mahbubur Rahman.
ACC served the notices to Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakka (RAJUK), DCC, Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB), General Post Office (GPO), Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Dhaka District Registrar and Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), ACC sources said.
In the notices, ACC has asked for documents about plot, flat, business organisations, vehicles, land and income returns by one week.
A team of ACC on Tuesday last launched a drive to unearth whether the former State Minister earned wealth and properties beyond his known sources of income, the sources added.
ACC Deputy Director Khairul Huda began his work from the minister’s village home in Patuakhali district. Mahbubur Rahman became MP unopposed from Patuakhali-4 Constituency in the 10th parliamentary polls held on January 5.
Rahman has so far acquired 865 acres of land as against 20 acres only five years ago. The value of his properties has been shown as Tk 5. 24 crore in the affidavit submitted during the 10th parliamentary election and Tk 36.33 lakh during the 9th parliamentary election. The value of the properties of his wife has been shown as Tk 1. 26 crore in 2013 and Tk 5 lakh in 2008 respectively. In 2008, his annual income was Tk 2. 15 lakh from a part time business. But now he earns Tk 1. 5 crore from fishery project. Besides, he earns Tk 20. 34 lakh from other sources and his dependents earn Tk 95 thousand annually, he said in his affidavits.
