National Swimming Championship: 7 more records set up on second day

Seven more national records were set up on the 2nd day of the four-day RMM Group 27th National Swimming Championship on Tuesday at the newly constructed Gopalganj Swimming Pool and Gymnasium complex.
With the day’s feat, a total of 10 national records were created in the first two days of the four-day meet.
On the 2nd day, Sonia Akhter Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy made national records in women’s 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley and 4X100-meter free style relay,
Olympian Navy swimmer Mahfizur Rahman Sagar set new national mark in the men’s hot event of 50-meter freestyle and was adjudged the fastest swimmer of Bangladesh. He also shared national record in the men’s 4X100 freestyle relay.
Another Navy swimmer, Nazma Khantun created national record in women’s hot event of 50 meter freestyle to be named as the fastest swimmer of the country. She also shared national mark in the women’s 4X100 freestyle relay.
Mahfuza Akhter Sheela of Bangladesh Navy bettered the national mark in women’s 100 meter breaststroke.
Earlier, on Monday, Sonia Akhter Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy made the meet’s first record in women’s 200-meter butterfly clocking 2:41.49 to better the old mark of 2:44.15 made by BKSP swimmer Romana Akhter in 2013.
Country’s celebrated Navy swimmer Mahfuzur Rahman Sagar set up the 2nd record in the men’s 200-meter freestyle with timing of 1:59.13 to improve own record of 2:00.56 in 2013.
Romana Akhter of Army created the Monday’s other record in the women’s 400-meter Individual Medley clocking 05:49.92 to better her own mark of 05:55.20, also in 2013.
After the 2nd day (Tuesday), Bangladesh Navy top the list securing 14 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals. Bangladesh Army were a distant 2nd with five gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals while Bangladesh Ansar were in the 3rd place with three silver and and two bronze.
