Seven more people have been arrested in connection with the arson attack that left a woman and her three daughters dead at Sohagpara village in Mirzapur upazila on Tuesday.
However, police could not arrest the mastermind, Jahangir Hossain, even after three days into the gruesome incident.
The arrestees were identified as Jahangir’s friend Sushanta Kumar Roy, uncle Nannu Miah, cousin Badsha Miah, manager of local Maasranga Filling Station Mir Azadul Islam, its cashier Abul Bashar, supervisor Wasim Miah and lineman Abdul Mannan.
They were arrested in a drive in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, said sub-inspector Shyamal Kumar Dutta of Mirzapur Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case.
He said, they sought a seven-day remand for Sushanta before a court which sent six others to jail on Friday.
With this, a total of 10 people have so far been arrested in connection with the arson attack.
Hasna Begum, 30, wife of Mujibur Rahman, a Malaysia expatriate, and their daughters – Mariam, 14, Mali, 4, Mim 6, of South Sohagpara village were burned to death early Tuesday as miscreants set fire to their house following previous enmity.
Meanwhile, the residents of the Sohagpara formed a human chain on Friday demanding exemplary punishment of the culprits.
