The members of law enforcement agencies arrested seven alleged members of two banned militant groups — Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Allahr Dal — from different areas of Dhaka on Wednesday night.
They have been identified as Ariful Karim Chowdhury, Mehedi Hassan Shakil, Abdullah Al Mamun, and Nazmul Hassan, and Aminul Islam alias Setu, Abdullah Al Hasnat alias Kollol and Fazle Karim alias Sohagh.
The ABT men planned to carry out sudden attacks
on the police from behind with sharp weapons, said Rapid Action Battalion-4 Commanding Officer (CO) Mozammel Huq in a press briefing at RAM Media Center in the city’s Kawran Bazar on Thursday morning.
“After forensic tests we came to know about their nefarious plans. In three months, 23 members of the group were arrested and efforts are underway to nab the rest,” the RAB official said.
At that time, inflammatory books, leaflets, electronic circuits, devices, batteries and mobiles were seized from them, he said. Arrested Ariful Karim was the Amir of one section and served nearly two years in jail, the CO said.
He was previously a member of Harkatul Jihad, and joined ABT after coming out of prison and used to maintain online connections with militants, he added.
Mehedi Hassan Babu is a para medical student and had been associated with ABT for the last two years, Al Mamun is an Alim second year student and Nazmul used to work in a developer company.
Inflammatory books, leaflets, electronic circuits, devices, batteries and mobiles were seized, according to him.
Meanwhile, in another raid, the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained three suspected members of Allahr Dal from Begunbari in Dakkhin Keraniganj on Wednesday night.
The detained were identified as Aminul Islam alias Setu, Abdullah Al Hasnat alias Kollol and Fazle Karim alias Sohagh. A CTTC team raided the area acting on a tip-off and detained them, said SM Hasanul Zahid, Superintendent of Police (intelligence branch) of CTTC unit. The law enforcement agency claimed to have recovered books and documents of radical ideas from their possession.
