At least seven persons were lynched by angry mob in Chapainawabganj, Narsingdi and Gazipur on Wednesday evening. Of them, four were killed in Chapainawabganj.
Our Chapainawabganj Correspondent reports: Four suspected dacoits were beaten to death by angry mob in Mokrompur area under Gomostapur Upazila of the district at around 7:30pm on Wednesday.
Of the deceased one was identified as Rabbani but other remained unidentified instantly.
Sources said that stopping a motor bike, the four dacoits tried to snatch it away. Then, the motorcyclist shouted and hearing the hue and cry locals rushed to the spot and beat them, leaving Rabbabi dead on the spot and injured three others.
Later, the injured were taken to Gomostapur Hospital but the three dacoits died on the way of hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Gomostapur Police Station Firoj Ahmed said, “A gang of 10/12 bandits intercepted a motorcyclist in Boalia area on Gomastapur-Bholanathpur road and tried to take it away. Hearing victim’s screams, locals rushed in, encircled the gang members and managed to catch four of them.”
Later, the angry mob gave them a good beating, leaving them critically injured. The four bodies were kept at upazila hospital, he said.
In another incident, two persons were killed at Charmandia village under Monohardi Upzila in Narshingdi district at about 9:30 pm yesterday.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in Charge of Monohardi Police Station Mahmudur Rahman said, “The local people chased a gang of 7/8 dacoits when they entered the village for committing dacoity. Two dacoits died on the spot when they were caught and beaten mercilessly by the agitated mob. Other members of the gang managed to escape the scene.”
People besieged the police station for rampant dacoities in the area for the few days.
Besides, one person was killed in Gazipur by mob beating. The details of the incident, however, could not be available till the time of filing of this report at 10:40 pm yesterday.
