UNB, Dhaka: At least seven people were killed as a two-storey shanty collapsed in the city’s East Rampura area on Wednesday. Police said the tin-shed shanty, situated beside a water body at Begerbari Jhilpar in East East Rampura under Rampura police station, caved in around 4:00 pm, leaving an unspecified number of people trapped inside the house. Two rescue units of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters went to the spot and started the rescue operation. Contacted, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station Mahbubur Rahman Tarafder confirmed the deaths of the seven people. Among the deceased, two were identified as Mizan,35, of Jhalakati and Nizan Khan,45, of Barguna. The injured people were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
