In separate incidents, customs officials on Monday arrested seven people along with 12 gold bars weighing around 1.4 kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Dr Moinul Khan said the arrestees came from Saudi Arabia and landed at the around 3:45pm.
They are Mosharraf Hossain, 49, of Munshiganj, Babul Miah, 29, of Brahmanbaria, Farman Ali, 29, of Tangail, Fazlul Haque, 46, of Meherpur, Rabiul Islam, 39, of Kushtia, Alam Miah, 37, of Narsingdi and Abdullah Al Mahfuz, 48, of Feni.
The presence of gold worth Tk 69.60 lakh was detected while they were crossing the green channel, said Moinul.
