Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested seven members including the mastermind of an organized gang from Bashundhara residential and Dakshin Khan area in the city on charges of blackmailing and extortion.
The detainees are identified as ring leader Md Al Mahmud alias Mamun ,26, Mastura Akhtar Priya, 21, Md. Akram Hossain, Akib 20, Tanya Akhtar ,25, Md. Rubel ,32, Md. Mohsin 26, and Md. Imran 32.
Commander of RAB-1 Lt. Col. Abdullah Al Momen said this in a press conference organized at RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar on Tuesday afternoon.
Abdullah Al Momen said that the gang used to send friend requests on Facebook by targeting the IDs of aristocrats and rich people.
Then friendship developed from acquaintance. At one stage of love, the lover’s obligation is to spend time alone. The address is the girl friend’s house. And only by going to that house, all the problems happened. A large sum of money was taken hostage by taking offensive pictures and videos with the woman posing as a girl friend, he said.
After all, youths who are victims of fraud can be freed by meeting their needs in order to protect their dignity. In this way, in the last two years, on the basis of two women’s relationship, they have invited around 50 rich and corporate people to their homes and stolen crores of taka by threatening to spread their videos on Facebook, he added.
