At least seven fishermen were abducted from Dhanshid-dhirchar area of East Sundarbans adjacent to the Chandpai Range by Forest robber gangs Shamsu-Zillu Bahini on Friday noon.
One of the fishermen who managed to escape from the scene said, some fishermen went to the area for fishing on Friday morning. All on a sudden gangs of two forest robber named Zillu and Shamsu Bahini swooped on them, beat them mercilessly, looted seven fishing trawlers and abducted seven fishermen on demand of ransom of taka two lakhs.
The residents of the abducted fishermen are at Swaronkhola and Mongla upazila areas of Bagerhat district. Jahiruddin Ahmed, conservator of Forest (CF) of Khulna region said, We have not heard about the matter of abduction. Lt. M Fariduzzaman, operations officer of west zone of coastguard said, We can’t ascertain the matter of abduction.
“After hearing the matter from some fishermen, We are looking for the incident and proper steps will be taken as soon as possible”, Lt. Farid added.
Sources said, family members of the abducted fishermen became disheartened after hearing the news.
No abducted fishermen could be rescued till filing this report at 1.35 pm on Saturday.
