Covid-19 certificate forgery: 7 fake doctors held in city

A negative certificate of coronavirus test is a must for ordinary travelers going abroad like the Middle East countries. And by capitalising this, an unscrupulous group used to take hostage of the expatriates and embezzle large sums of money starting from 10 thousand taka .
The members of the gang used to gain the trust of the expatriates by introducing themselves as the doctors, staff and nurses of their Covid-19 hospital. Later, the gang used to take huge amount of money from the passengers providing fake certificate of Covid-19.
On the basis of these allegations, RAB arrested seven members of the gang who cheated ordinary passengers traveling abroad with coronavirus test certificates from Banani in the capital on
 Saturday night (May 14). The arrested were identified as Jasim Uddin (28), Md. Tarekul Islam (26), Md. Alamgir Hossain (20), Md. Ripon Mia (26), Md. Ariful Islam (20), Ahmed Hossain Shahadat (18) and Md. Shamim Hossain (30).
During the drive, photocopies of positive and negative credentials of fake Covid-19 test, two SIM cards used for money transfer through Bikash, tokens containing three mobile numbers of expatriates, a pen drive (including fraudulent conversations recording of defendants identified as doctors, staff and nurses) 41,869 in cash, an ATM card of Dutch-Bangla Bank and eight mobile phones were recovered.
RAB-1 Commander (CO) Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Momen made the remarks at a press conference held at RAB-1’s office in Uttara on Sunday (May 15).
