7 DU affiliate college students postpone demo following VC’s assurance

Seven affiliated government college students under Dhaka University (DU) postpone the protest hours after started, following the assurance of university Vice-Chancellor Professor Akhtaruzzaman.
The protesting students brought out a procession from Dhaka College and blockade the Mukti O Ganatantra Toron gateway to enter inside DU using Nilkhet route on Monday around 10am with five point charter of demands.
The demand includes: to start crash program and
publish academic calendar, publish mistake-free results for all academic sessions together by 90 days after finishing the exam, notify the reason behind huge rate of failure from promotion and re-scrutiny, separate academic building for 7 college, DU teachers have to take classes at least two days in a month in each department of each college.
DU proctorial team offered the students to meet DU VC without creating any creating obstacles for city life.
The protesting students met DU VC Professor Akhtaruzzman and submitted memorandum containing the demands at around 12pm.
Assuring the students DU VC said: “We are taking special steps for the 7 college students by 90 days. It will take six months to implement. Also the process to build an independent academic building for those colleges is ongoing.”
He also assured that those who fails to get promoted into next class, could apply in respective colleges in this regard.
Abu Bakar, coordinator of the protest, said “We will check the situation if the steps are properly taken or not in each college, according to VC’s assurance. We are postponing the protest till then. We will go for the protest again if the demands are not met.”
The seven affiliated colleges are – Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College.
