At least seven members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police have been suspended for allegedly extorting Tk4.5 lakh from a businessman under intimidation of killing him.
The suspended police personnel are identified as Sub-Inspector Syed Mahmudul Islam, Assistant Sub-Inspector Forhad Ali and five constables namely Mozammel, Jabbar, Sumon, Razib and Rasel.
Police source said that on Wednesday afternoon, the accused police personnel arrested a local
businessman named Sohel from South Keraniganj area and demanded the amount frightening him to kill in crossfire. He, however, was released after his family gave them the amount, they added.
“They have been suspended based on a complaint. We are investigating the matter,” Dhaka district Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain Sarder said on Friday.
