Six policemen and an Ansar member have been suspended while two of them sent to jail over the death of a businessman in police custody.
The suspended policemen are sub-inspector Amir Hossain, constables Mizanur Rahman, Moslem,Hossain of Bakalia Police Station and while the Ansar man is Shahinur Alam.
Of them, SI Amir and constable Moslem were sent to jail on Tuesday in connection with the custodial death of Rokonuzzaman, said additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police Rezaul Masud.
He said, the duo was suspended and arrested on Monday night. They were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rahmat Ali on Tuesday which sent them to jail.
Besides, the five other cops were suspended on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the custodial death, the police official said. Police arrested Rokonuzzmana from Syed Shah Road under Bakalia Police Station in connection with a case on June 18. Later, he was taken to Panchlaish Police Station where he died in the police custody.
Victim’s wife Shimu Akhter filed a murder case against 10 people, including seven policemen, with Bakalia Police Station on June 25.
