Seven policemen including an officer-in-charge, were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with Indian terrorists along Songrampunji border area of Goainghat upazila early Monday.
Officer-in-Charge of Goainghat Police Station Delwar Hossain said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in Songrampunji village around 3.30am. Sensing the presence of police, the terrorists opened fire at them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.
At one stage, police arrested an alleged arms trader-Scaling Tariang, 32 –while his other associates managed to flee the scene. Seven policemen
including the OC were injured during the gunfight.
The law enforcers also recovered two pistols, one rifle, one slipper gun, six sharp weapons and 23 rounds of bullet from the spot.
