7 BCL men expelled from DU for beating student

Dhaka University (DU) administration has temporarily expelled seven activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of ruling Awami League, on charges of walloping a student on Thursday.
The administration took the decision at a meeting held on Friday night and formed an investigation committee to probe the incident, DU Acting Proctor Amzad Ali told The New Nation.
But the duration of their expulsion has not yet been decided, he said.
The expelled students are Shaheen, Shakil, Ashik, Mehedi, Liton, Mamun and Zafar. All of them are the
residents of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall. Of them, Ashik and Mamun are students of second year honours in English while Shakil, Shaheen Mehedi and Liton in Philosophy, Urdu, Public Administration, and Tourism and Hospitality Management respectively.
The name of the department Zafar studies could not be known immediately.
On Thursday, the accused clobbered Al Amin, a first year student of criminology department and resident of Bangabandhu Hall, in front of the Teachers and Students Centre (TSC) around 7:30pm on Thursday.
Witnesses said that the BCL men beat Amin indiscriminately following an altercation with him. The victim’s brother later filed a case with the Shahbagh Police Station.
