Some 6 aspirant candidates’ nomination papers of Rangpur City Corporation [RCC] mayoral race were cancelled in scrutinisations on account of irregularities of information in their nomination paper on Sunday.
Seven aspirant mayoral candidates’ nominations were declared valid in RCC poll.
The scrapped nomination papers were- Independent candidates, Abdur Rouf Manik, Sweety Anjum, Bir Uttom Abdul Mazid, Shakil Rayhan, Mehedi Hasan Boni and Nazmul Alam Nazu.
Seven nomination papers were declared valid. They are- AL candidate, Shorfuddin Ahamed Jhantu, BNP candidate, Kawsar Zaman Babla, JP[E] candidate, Mostafizur Rhaman Mostafa, SPB candidate, Abdul Kuddus, National Peoples Party candidate, Selim Akhter, Islami Shashontontro Andolon candidate, ATM Golam Mostafa and JP leader contesting as independent candidate, Hossain Mokbul Asif Shahariar.
Some 12 aspirant councilor’s nominations were cancelled in the scrutiny. Of them 4 from reserved and 8 were from general councilors.
Some 218 nominations for general and 63 for reserved councilors contestants nominations were declared valid.
Rangpur Regional Election Officer, Suvash Chandra Sarker said, nomination papers were not filled- up according to the election code of conduct. Moreover, there are some irregularities and wrong information in the documents attached with the nomination papers. So, we cancelled the nomination papers.
Earlier on November 22 and some 13 aspirant candidates submitted nomination papers for the mayoral race and 226 general councilors and 67 for reserved submitted for 33 ward councilors posts of the Rangpur City Corporation[RCC] election on Wednesday the last day of receiving and submission of nomination papers.
According to the election schedule, dates for nomination paper receiving and submitting were set from November 5 to November, nominations scrutiny on November 25 and 26, appeal for candidature on November 27, 28, 29, resolving appeals from , 30 November 30- December2 candidature withdrawal date is on December, 3. Symbols will be allocated on December 4. Poll is set to be held on December 21.
There were some 388421 voters in 33 wards of Rangpur City Corporation. Of them male voters are- 196659 and female voters are -191762. The commanding area of RCC is 203.6 square kilometer. Votes will be cast in some 193 vote centers..
