Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in a drive rescued abducted student Mohaiminul Islam alias Anas from a residential hotel in the city’s Gulistan area on Friday night.
They also arrested seven persons, including a bKash agent, for their alleged involvement in abduction and demanding huge amount of ransom from the victim’s family members.
The arrested persons are: Shahdat Hossain, Sharif Hossain, Nidhon Chandra Das, Md Selim,
hotel employee Abdul Quader, bKash agent Nasir Uddin and Nasir’s employee Bappi. Police also seized a motorbike from the hotel during the drive. DMP Joint-Commissioner Monirul Islam said this in a press briefing on the Minto Road in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Monirul Islam said that Mohaiminul recently advertised online for selling mobile set. The abductors contacted with Mohaiminul on the pretension of purchasing the mobile set.
Earlier on July 22, the abductors in disguise of buyers went to collect the mobile set in the Shekhertek area. While one abductor was bargaining with Mohaiminul about the price, others abducted him picking up in a microbus. Thereafter, the abductors contacted with Mohaiminul’s family members in his cell phone for ransom.
At first his family members paid Tk 10,000 in cell phone, but the abductors demanded Tk 10,00,000 with warning that Mohaiminul would be killed in case of non-payment. The criminals clubbed him mercilessly. His screaming was heard by his family.
