State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu on Thursday said that about 7.5 lakh applications were pending with five power distribution entities for new connections.
He said it at a mass hearing on ghost and tempering of bills by meter readers, and distribution companies’ procrastination policy about giving new connection. The Power and Energy ministry arranged the mass hearing yesterday to
discuss the problems faced by the consumers. The minister answered the journalists’ questions also.
The minister ordered the five power distribution entities to take immediate action in this regard. Power Secretary Monowar Islam said, load shedding was rampant in 2009. Now there is no load shedding. He, however, admitted of skilled manpower crisis in the power sector hampering the speed of the development work.
