The Election Commission on Saturday announced the schedule for the sixth phase (final phase) of Union Parishad (UP) elections.
A total of 219 UPs across the country will go to polls in the phase on January 31 next year.
Election Commission secretary Humayun Kabir Khandaker announced the election schedule after a meeting at its office in the capital. The meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda. According to the election schedule, candidates can submit their nomination papers till January 3. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on January 6 and the last date for withdrawal of candidacy is January 13. The returning officers will allocate electoral symbols among the candidates on January 14.
Earlier, the Election Commission announced the schedule of the fifth phase of UP polls, which will be held on January 5 next year.
