The 69th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed today.
Born on August 5, 1949 at Tungipara in Gopalganj, Sheikh Kamal was a former executive member of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
Awami League, its associate bodies and different political, socio-cultural and sports organizations have taken up elaborate programmes marking the day. The programmes include placing of wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Kamal and recitation from the Holy Quran, milad-mahfil and offering fateha at Banani Graveyard and discussions.
The AL and its associate bodies will pay tribute to Sheikh Kamal by placing wreaths at his portrait on Dhanmondi Abahani Club premises at 8am and at his grave in the Banani Graveyard at 9am.
A doa mahfil will be held at the graveyard seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Kamal and other family members of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who were assassinated by a group of disgruntled army personnel on August 15, 1975. Besides, Awami Swechchhasebak League will pay homage to Sheikh Kamal’s portrait at Abahani Krira Chakra at 9.30am and it will place a wreath at his grave in the Banani Graveyard at 10.30pm. Besides, the organization will arrange a discussion marking the day.
