The 66th Republic Day of India was celebrated with colorfully at Indian High Commission office in the port city on Monday.
Assistant High commissioner of India inChitstagong arranged the colourful function at its Khulsi office premises in city.
Political leaders of Chittagong , Senior govt officials, foreign diplomats and VIPs, business leaders, teachers, physicians , journalists and the city elites attended the function.
City Mayor M Manzoor Alam graced the occasion as Chief Guest .
Among the honourable guests, MA Latif MP, former city Mayor and AL city President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, CDA Chairman Abdus Salam, Zila Parishad Administrator and North District AL General Secretary MA Salam, President of south district president and general secretary Moslehuddin & Mofizur Rahman respectively and the Chamber president Mahbubul Alam were present on the occasion.
Asstt. High commissioner Mr. Somnath Halder delivered address o welcome in the reception function and greeted the attended guests. In his address, AHC said the friendly relations of Bangladesh with India is unforgettable and it is continuing since emergence of Bangladesh .He said India is the major importer o Bangaldesh products.
The diplomat remembered the cooperation of India during the liberation war o Bangladesh in 1971 .
About India Visa, an average 600 Bangladeshis are getting Inida visa without any hindrances.
The chief guest M Manzoor Alam said the friendly relations with India was continuing since long and will exist also in future. City mayor desires to see Chittagong Port like as Singapore port through providing transit facilities to all neighbouring countries which is under consideration of the present govt. The function concluded following the presentation of Indian folk songs and dance sequences, sources said.
