Ctg portion of Dhaka -Ctg 4-lane Highway: 66 kilometers to complete by next month

The 4-lane road expansion work of Dhaka-Chittagong Highway is progressing fast despite different obstructions and uncertainty earlier .
 The whole project of the highway is divided into 10 packages. Out of the total packages, Chinese construction company – Sino Hydro Ltd has been awarded with 7 packages and the rest 3 package was given to two local firms.
 The Chittagong portion of the highway approximately 66 kilometers divided into 4 packages and the China Hydro company has been given the work of 2 package beginning from Dhumghat(Mirsarai ) to City gate in Chittagong city .
 Remaining works of the 2 packages given to local contracting firms named Reza Construction and Taher & Brothers. Local sources said out of total 66 kilometers , the work of 45 kilometers already completed recently and the traffic movement over that completed portions already started.
Four Lane office of the Roads & Highways department sources said the speed of the local contracting firms are more advanced than the foreign one.
But following the personal initiiatives of the Communication Minister Obaidul Kader recently , the Sino Hydro company accelerated their work , the speed than earlier.
 As a result the concerned contractors hoped the work of 66 kilometers of Chittagong portion of the highway may be completed by December next and the traffic movement on that part will begin immediately with no doubt. Eye witnesses sources said traffic movement over the completed 45 kilometers in Chittagong part is undergoing.
Additional Director of 4-lane project Arun Alo chakma told that Sino Hydro company is advancing the work with maximum speed than before and their work is most satisfactory in recent times.
He hoped that the traffic movement may be started by end of December next from Mirsarai to Chittagong.
Sources said the construction work of of No.8 package under Sino Hydro contracting firm approximately 18 kilometers from Mirsarai Bazar to Sitakunda Battala point remained stranded for about 5 months upto April last. With the physical supervision of the work by the Communication Minister, Sino Hydro company started work with full swing from April last and 10 kilometers work already completed in last month.
The work under No.10 package on Chittagong portion from Kumira bypass to city gate, Chittagong approximately 15 kilometers has been entrusted to local contractor Taher & Brothers and comparatively their work is satisfactory, local sources said.
A reliable official of Taher & Brothers claims that they have already completed work upto 14 kilometers of No.10 package.
The remaining work of the No.10 package is expected to be completed by next month, they hoped. The progress of work by the foreign contracting firm of China is comparatively slow than the local contractors. Mentionable that Chinese company Sino Hydro Ltd has been entrusted for two third portions of the total Dhaka-Chittagong 4-lane Highway.
