The authority has cancelled a total of 66 licenses of customs clearing and forwarding agents on charge of tax dodging, said customs sources.
Of the total, 59 license were cancelled permanently while the left 7 temporarily. The customs also realized 31 crore as fines from C&F agents.
Customs sources said Bebapole customs commissioner Mahbbuzzaman took the decision of cancelling licenses of C&F agents after getting proof of tax evasion. There are a total of 740 C&F agents at Benapole who serve as middlemen for getting delivery of imported goods for importers.
Mahbub Hasan, assistant commissioner, Benapole customs confirmed the information of cancellation of C&F licenses to journalists. ‘The decision was taken to honour rule of law’, he added.
