Sixty-six Bangladeshi citizens who were stranded in India in the midst of the to Coronavirus crisis having gone there at different times for treatment or travelling, returned home on Saturday.
They were kept in institutional quarantine after they entered Bangladesh through Benapole checkpost.
On April 4 the government announced that those who will return home from abroad, will stay at any institutional quarantine near their port of entry as Coronavirus spread across the world in pandemic form.
Against this background, the 66 women, men and children returned home from India through Benapole checkpost.
Upon confirmation of their citizenship, they were sent into quarantine to the nearby institutional centre after immigration formalities.
The stranded 66 women, men and children who came from India from 9 am to 7 pm on Saturday through this route, were entered into the quarantine facility at Gazir Dargah Madrasha under Jhikorgachha thana.
Benapole Immigration officer-in-charge Ahsan Kabir said that the returnees are being taken to quarantine with special security. After completion of immigration formalities, army, police, BGB, upazila administration and Fire Service staff took them to their destination.
Pulok Kanti Mondol, Sharsha Upazila Nirbahi Officer, informed that “The Bangladeshi passport holder passengers who came from India, are being put under institutional quarantine for 14 days on behalf of the upazila administration. The 66 passengers who returned on Saturday, have been kept in a madrasha at Gazirdorgah on Jessore-Benapole highway. If Coronavirus infection is not found in them after staying there on the 14-day quarantine, then they will be allowed to return home.”
