The pass rate of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations is 66.64 percent compared with 68.91 percent last year.
A total of 8,58,801 examinees, out of 12,88,757 came out successful in the examinations last year in all the 10 education boards whereas 801,711 students out of 11,63,370 passed the examinations last year.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid announced the result in a press briefing in his Ministry office on Thursday.
Earlier, the Education Minister along with chairmen of all the education boards handed over the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban, her official residence, around 10:10 am. The Prime Minister unveiled the results digitally. The Prime Minister exchanged views with students of Netrakona through a videoconference from her residence on the occasion.
State Minister for Madrasah and Technical Education Division Kazi Keramat Ali also spoke on the occasion, while Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain delivered the welcome speech.
Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman conducted the programme.
The number of GPA 5 achievers is 29,262 while the number of students having achieved the highest grade was 37,969 in the previous year.
Among the successful students, 25,562 achieved the highest grade GPA 5 under eight general Education Boards, while 1,244 under the Madrasa Education Board and 2,456 under the Technical and Vocational Education Board.
Female students have outshined the male candidates this year.
The girl’s pass rate of all education boards is 69.72 percent while the pass rate of boys is 63.88 percent.
Of 6, 80, 848 male students who appeared in the examinations, 4, 34,958 passed, while 4,23, 843 female students among 6,07, 909 candidates passed this year.
Last year too, girls beat the boys with their pass rate about 2.28 percentage points higher than their counterparts.
The pass rate of students who sat for the HSC and its equivalent examinations in overseas centres has dropped by 1.93 percentage points year-on-year to 92.28 percent.
A total of 285 students from seven institutes appeared in the examinations and 263 of them came out successful.
Last year, the pass rate of students in overseas centres was 94.21 percent.
One of the seven educational institutions witnessed a 100 percent pass rate.
Barisal Board has secured the top position among eight general educational boards with 70.55 per cent pass rate in the HSC and equivalent examinations this year.
Some 62,173 students appeared in the examination under Barisal Board and of them, 43, 861 have passed.
Meanwhile, Dinajpur Board with a pass rate of 60.21 is at the rock-bottom of the list.
The pass rate at Rajshahi Board is 66.51 percent, 66.13 percent in Dhaka, 65.42 percent in Cumilla, 62.73 percent in Chattogram, 62.11 percent in Sylhet and 60.40 percent in Jashore in that order.
The number of institutions where all examinees failed has declined to 55 this year from 72 a year ago.
At least 66.64 percent students have passed the HSC and equivalent examinations while 29,262 students achieved GPA-5.
All students of 12 institutions in Dinajpur Board, six in Dhaka and Rajshahi, four in Jashore, two each in Barishal, Sylhet and Cumilla, and one in Chattogram failed the HSC exams.
All examinees from 13 institutions under the Madrasa Board and seven institutions under the technical board could not pass the examinations.
On the other hand, all examinees from 400 institutions have passed the HSC exams this year. The number was 532 in 2017.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid congratulated the students for their excellent results. He asked the unsuccessful students to be patient and concentrate in study for the next examinations.
He said, “This year the results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations have been published within 55 days after the examinations were held from April 2 to May 23.”
The Minister also claimed that this year’s examinations were held without any complaint and the number of students also increased which proved that the number of dropout students was reducing.
“Now we are giving importance to raise the standards of education, though the pass rate was lower, the quality of education is raising,” said Nahid.
To get the results, students can also log on to the website www.educationboardresults.gov.bd.
For eight general education boards, the students have to type HSCfirst three letters of the respective boardsroll number2018 and then send to 16222.
The students of Alim have to write AlimMadroll number2018 and sent to 16222 while the students of vocational courses have to type HSCTecroll number2018 and send to 1622.
HSC theory examinations were held from April 2 to May 13 and the practical examinations were held from May 14 to May 23. A total of 1,311,457 students sat for the examinations.
