65 medical teams working at flood affected upazilas in Gaibandha

A total of 65 medical teams have been working at flood affected areas of four upazilas in the district for few days last to check the diarrhea, the dysentery and water borne diseases. Sundarganj, Sadar, Phulchhari and Shaghata upazilas were hit by devastating flood at the end of the last month affecting around 3 lakh people.
Since July 30, the overall flood situation in the upazilas started improving with the fall of the water level in the river Brahmaputra.
The health department at the directives of the higher authorities concerned formed 65 medical teams headed by medical officers and they were providing healthcare services to the people of the affected areas.
Of them, some 21 mobile medical teams are also working round the clock in the flood affected areas of the upazilas so that the diseases could not spread out in the locality and the situation was not deteriorated.
Civil surgeon Dr. Nirmalendu Chowdhury said they were so much alert in this regard and had efficiency to face flood related diseases as adequate medicines were in stocks here. The CS said 1.50 lakh pieces of water purifying tablets and 40,000 packets of oral salaine were distributed to the flood victims to check the diseases so far.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad said the government is always beside the flood victims and is fully prepared to deal with any situation.
