At least 63 percent students of 34 public universities are suffering from residential crisis. As a result, they are deprived of normal academic atmosphere.
According to the 42nd Annual Report published by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as many as 90,462 students out of 2,44,363 students live in halls. Of them 56,835 are males and 33,627 are females.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan admitted of the accommodation crisis at public universities.
“We know all about the residential crisis in public universities. But we have nothing to do, unless the government sanctions sufficient money to build more and more halls. The UGC has drawn the attention of the government as well as the Education Minister in this respect,” he said.
A total of 23,114 students (15,279 males and 7,835 females) out of 31,955 students

No residential facilities are at Jagannath University, Barisal University, National University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University, Islamic Arabic University and Bangladesh Open University.
A total of 19,011 students are studying at Jagannath University, 4,527 students at Barisal University, 20,73,069 students at National University, 20,7,829 students at Bangladesh Open University, 59,8,031 students at Islamic Arabic University and 48 students at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University.
