634 CoU students to get interest free loan

634 students of Comilla University (CoU) are going to get interest free education loan from University Grants Commission (UGC). This loan will be provided to the indigent students to purchase smartphone for online class.
Confirming the matter, CoU Registrar Professor. Dr. Md. Abu Taher said, ‘The list of 634 indigent students, signed by the heads of 19 departments of Comilla University has been sent to UGC. All listed students will get interest free loan. In an online-meeting chaired by UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Kazi Shahidullah has taken a final decision to provide interest-free loan Wednesday..
Besides, providing interest free loans, the CoU administration is also working to support with low cost internet service to the students, the Registrar also informed. He said, ‘Grameenphone and Robi came to us with their offers. We will finalize one these companies in the next meeting of the finance committee.’
Incidentally, Up to 8,000 taka per person will be provided to 41,501 unprivileged students of 39 public universities in the country to purchase smartphones under the soft loan. It has been said that this allocation will be given by January 31, 2021. Students will be able to repay this loan in four equal installments or one time after opening the university or during the study period.
