State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that 63 per cent population of the country under smooth power supply. “The government has taken various initiatives to ensure smooth power supply for all citizens of the country within 2021,” he said this on Thursday while replying to a tabled question from a treasury bench member Israfil Alam in the Jatiya Sangsad.
He said the government is implementing various projects to generate 24,000MW electricity by 2021, Nasrul told the House.
“We have to generate additional 15,000MW electricity to ensure power supply for all citizens across the country within 2021 and the government needs about Taka 1,50,000 crore for it,”
he said.
The state minister said that the ministry is working to improve power transmission capacity and expand distribution lines to supply generated electricity among new subscribers across the country.
“Besides, the government is importing electricity from neighbouring country and initiative is underway to bring more power. Apart from this, initiatives have been taken to generate electricity from renewable energy and nuclear systems,” Nasrul informed the Sangsad.
