City Desk :
Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has given a threat for movement after Eid to heighten people’s sufferings.
“On the other hand, the government has given assurance to recruit 6,000 doctors to serve the people along with the country’s development,” he said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at a pre-Iftar discussion at the city’s Mugdapara Hospital.
The discussion was organised in observance of the first founding anniversary of the hospital.
Director of the hospital Dr Mostafizur Rahman chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, Awami League health and population affairs secretary Dr Badiuzzaman Bhuiyan Dublu and secretary general of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Iqbal Arsalan.
The minister said, “A total of 6,221 new doctors will be appointed at the villages on August 7. I have told everybody concerned that I will not pay heed to your words (demand) for the next two years. If required, you can choose your posting in your own districts-upazilas. Alongside, the competent doctors will be given promotion after Eid.”
Mohammad Nasim called upon the doctors not to go for strike taking their patients as hostages assuring them that their legitimate demand would be taken into consideration if they choose alternative ways of movement and protests discarding strike.
“I have told always the relatives of the patients not to hurt the doctors unnecessarily as no doctor wants to cause any harm to his/her patient deliberately,” the minister added. Mohammad Nasim said, “None can reap the fruits launching movement against development and public interest.
The days of going to power through back doors by hatching conspiracy have ended. So, I would like to request BNP’s lady leader to engage herself in public welfare choosing the path of democracy discarding tricky politics.” In reply to BNP’s movement threat after Eid, the senior Awami League leader said, “Awami League never afraid of anybody’s threat for movement as the party was born through movement. Since its inception, the party was in the movement for people’s rights.”
