61 leaders, activists of Jamaat acquitted from charges

A Barisal court has acquitted sixty-one leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh including city-amir from charges after found not-guilty on Tuesday.
Amit Kumar Dey, chief metropolitan magistrate, handed down this verdict in presence of 35 out of 61 accused on Tuesday evening after examining 6 witnesses and other documents.
The acquitted Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists included Advocate Moazzem Hussain Helal, city-amir of JIB, Abdullah Al Nahian, former city-president of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Mir Adnan Ahmed Tuhin, Kamrul Ahsan Rubel, Kawsar Siddiki, Ziaur Rahman, Hemayetuddin Sardar, activists of JIB and ICS.
Abul Kalam Azad Imon, defense lawyer and court sources said JIB and ICS activists and leaders on February 23, 2013 under the banner of Olamaye Keram and Towhidi Janota held an agitation rally at Fazlul Huq Avenue area of the city protesting humiliating Prophet (SM) by telling obscene words. They demanded exemplary punishment of the assaulters.
After the rally the JIB and ICS activists rushed to Sadar Road area and tried to attack activists of Gano Jagoran Mancha in front of the Ashwini Kumar Hall.
Police taking action disbursed the attackers.
Sub Inspector Abdur Rahman Mukul as complainant lodged a case against 250 accused including 20 JIB and ICS leaders and activists at the night of the same day.
After long investigation Sub Inspector Chinmoy Mitra, submitted charge sheet against 61 leaders and activists of JIB and ICS on January 31, 2014.
